About the event
The return of the New England jazz trio led by upright bassist Jack Lianos, featuring saxophonist Hikari McDowell & drummer Jody Bregler!
Jack Lianos is an upright bassist from Manchester, NH, who is now studying Jazz Performance at The New School in NYC. He's won the 4-year award for NH's All-State Orchestra, the Top Score award for NH's All-State Jazz, and performed with NAfME's All-Eastern Orchestra. He was also a member of the NH Philharmonic Orchestra. Jack has studied with local bassists like Chris Noyes, Nathan Therrien, and Bronislaw Suchanek, but has also studied with some legends in NYC like Jeff Carney, Andy McKee, Reggie Workman, and Buster Williams. Jack loves cars, the outdoors, and long walks on the beach.
Hikari McDowell is a freshman studying music education at the University of New Hampshire. A graduate of Merrimack High School in Merrimack, New Hampshire, Hikari played lead alto saxophone with the NAfME All-Eastern Jazz Band in April of 2025. He also earned seven top score awards for saxophone in 2024 and 2025, five of which are from NHMEA’s Jazz All-State, and two of which are from NHMEA’s Classical All-State. Hikari is a student of Nate Jorgensen at UNH, and he loves making music with his friends.
Jody Bregler, on drums and other things, has been a fixture on the music scene in the Boston/New England area for over 30 years. Jody is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he studied with jazz legends Bob Gullotti and Joe Hunt. Jody has performed and recorded with hundreds of jazz groups ranging in size from duo to big bands and everything in between, with styles that include straight ahead jazz to avant-garde and everything in between.. Additionally, Jody has toured regionally and internationally with various groups playing jazz as well as other styles of music over the years. Jody lists drummers such as Billy Higgins, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, and Mel Lewis as some of the drummers who have influenced his style the most. Jody is a talented and versatile drummer who complements each ensemble he performs with tastefully and skillfully and adapts to the given style of music like a chameleon. Jody is extremely excited to appear with the Jack Lianos Trio.
