Hawk in the Nest is grounded in admiration for artists like Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan, and the Four Tops. With this album, Avi Jacob has successfully bridged the gap between timeless and urgent, harkening back to eras of old without relying on overwhelming nostalgia. Instead, an organic approach to songwriting sees Hawk in the Nest embrace inspiration as it strikes, an artist fully stepping into his own.

Avi was born into a Jewish family in Boston, Massachusetts. Avi’s father, Holocaust historian Robert Michael, supported Avi as he performed his first original folk concerts at age 14. Avi immersed himself in Boston's vibrant DIY music scene, releasing several early recordings as he honed his craft as an emerging songwriter and performer. Avi relocated to Charleston, South Carolina to pursue a professional music career that has seen him perform as direct support for many great artists, including the Marcus King Band, Dr. John, the Lone Bellow, Mipso, and Susto.

Avi began playing around 200 shows a year, gaining recognition through his live shows, music blogs, and compilation releases. In December 2015, The Counting Crows invited him to perform at the CMJ Festival, tweeting that he's “an emerging folk superstar.” That same year, A&R Report featured him as an artist to watch. Avi relocated back to his beloved New England, settling in Providence, Rhode Island. His 2018 EP "Surrender" was produced by Simone Felice, known for his work on The Lumineers' Billboard #1 album "Cleopatra," and was featured in American Songwriter Magazine. In May 2020, Avi released his EP "Preservation" via Bandcamp. In 2022, Avi won a New England Music Award, and performed at several Americana Festivals in Europe.

Avi is committed to using his powerful voice as an artist for the greater good. Through his work and on his ongoing artistic journey, Avi's North Star is his son, Elias. Live performance is sacred to Hawk in the Nest, and he remains on a mission to create life-changing moments where music can act as a point of movement and connection. https://hawkinthenest.com/
